   School Board Recognition Month

January 2011 is School Board Recognition Month
School Boards LeadStrong

This is your opportunity to build community awareness and understanding about the crucial role an elected board of trustees assumes in a representative democracy.

School Board Recognition Month kits have been mailed to all superintendent secretaries and school PR professionals. The complete kit, certificates, gift order forms and evaluations are available for download below. The kit includes everything you need to launch a successful School Board Recognition campaign, including tip sheets, logos, sample press releases, letter-to-the-editor, education quotes and more.

January is truly a special time for locally elected school trustees in Michigan. January is the time for school board members to be in the spotlight during National School Board Recognition Month.

As one of the original sponsors of this state and national observance, MASB's goal has been (and will continue to be) to build public understanding of and support for the concept of local control of our public schools. In 1989, when we launched the School Board Recognition program in Michigan, only five states celebrated this special month. Today, nearly every state and every governor participates.

Through MASB-sponsored activities, such as news releases, editorials and PSAs, we hope to create awareness and greater appreciation for the tremendous commitment school board members all make to their communities. Their efforts to help ALL children succeed by improving teaching and learning in school districts are truly appreciated.
