House Education Committee continues to take testimony on school funding. Is the message being heard?
Today in the House Education Committee, testimony was given from several groups relative to school funding in Michigan. Among the witnesses was Tom White, the chair of the SOS Task Force. Tom testified to the points of the platform of reform for SOS (which can be found at www.sosmichigan.org). The committee responded quite well to Tom’s presentation and seemed to understand the need for reform in expenditures and revenue. There was some push back from some members of the committee about acting only through expenditure reforms and not addressing the structural deficit that was detailed in the committee hearing.
If you’re reading this, you have some interest in education in Michigan, so I urge you to contact your legislator and demonstrate your willingness to help reform education expenditures, but also stress the need to reform our antiquated revenue streams.
Sorry the entry isn’t longer; I must rush off to the next meeting.
