The Legislature recently amended multiple sections of the Revised School Code involving student discipline requirements. These changes modified the zero tolerance laws by giving school districts more discretion on expulsion decisions, but the amendments also include new obligations for school officials when considering the suspension or expulsion of a student.
In response to these new requirements that will go into effect on Aug. 1, 2017, MASB is offering a one-day workshop that will cover the amendments and other trending and traditional issues relating to student discipline. Attorneys from the Thrun Law Firm will share their expertise on student discipline issues by offering several presentations that will address the following topics and much more:
- New rules on mandatory expulsions
- New factors to consider when suspending or expelling a student
- The significance of a rebuttable presumption in discipline hearings
- Using restorative justice practices
- Bullying and cyberbullying update
- Due process and student discipline hearings
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from legal experts on student discipline issues that impact your school districts. Space is limited, so register today!
Administrators will receive a total of four contact hours for attending the whole workshop.
