Policy Assistance
There are three areas where MASB offers direct bylaw and policy assistance to districts:
The MASB Policy Department offers regular seminars at MASB-sponsored conferences, along with both basic and advanced courses as part of MASB's board member certification program (CBA).
Many districts also use MASB's team of policy experts to provide specially-tailored seminars or in-service opportunities to the whole board, just for the local policy committe or for the administrative staff of the district. Why not bring the MASB with all its resources directly to your board room? We will work with you to provide a program suited to your special needs, and to address concerns unique to your district. The Policy Service Office can also put you in touch with MASB's other leadership development efforts, to design a comprehensive board retreat, workshops, strategic plan, or just to help the district through a particular "rough spot" that needs some impartial guidance.
Special seminars and programs are generally billed at the rate of $100 per hour, depending on the nature and extent of the program requested.

Policy Service Presentations
|
Do you know you have some issues with policy in your district that need to be addressed, but the board is unsure how to proceed? We would be glad to come out and meet with your board or your policy committee to talk about options and discuss the nature and scope of our services. Since MASB is a non-profit corporation, we'll provide as objective an overview as we can of their needs and the most economical way to meet them.
This service is free of charge for member boards on an "as-available" basis.
Are you currently struggling with a policy issue in your district? Has a situation arisen for which some extra input and advice would be helpful? Do you know what it is you want to do as a board, and just need some extra help making sure you get it done right?
MASB's Bylaw and Policy Service Department is available by telephone and email to help with your questions, concerns, and bylaw or policy problems. There is no added charge for this service. It comes as part of your district dues to MASB. We'll provide advice, assistance, writing, and research help on individual issues, help "brainstorm" possibilities, provide sample language, or connect you with other offices to assist with more complex difficulties.
To reach us, just call (517) 327-5900, and ask for Bob Ebersole, or Randi Airola, in the Bylaw and Policy Office. E-mail bebersole@masb.org; rairola@masb.org
