The MASB Annual Leadership Conference is fast approaching—is anyone from your district attending? With this year's event being fully virtual, and completely free for member districts, we hope we've made it as easy as possible to take advantage of this opportunity (we’re even offering online registration for this event).

For the past 26 years, the SET SEG Foundation has partnered with the Michigan Association of School Boards to host the Education Excellence Awards, honoring creative and innovative programs in Michigan schools.

MASB’s virtual Legislative Priority Setting Meetings have been going on in MASB Regions for the last three weeks. We are down to just three regions remaining! If you haven’t been able to join on the date for your region, feel free to join one of the remaining meetings.

If your district is struggling at the bargaining table with a perceived lack of trust and honesty between the parties, it may be time to initiate a different approach to the process. Interest-based bargaining is a collaborative-based strategy, led by a facilitator, which is designed to bring both sides together as a single “team” in order to build rapport and solve issues.

In the unprecedented era of virtual education, student nutrition should be a top consideration for academic success, particularly for students who are eligible for free and reduced-price meals. We know students who eat breakfast and lunch are more attentive and focused. Are you setting your students up for success?

Next week, school board members from across the state will be gathering virtually to represent their district at MASB’s Delegate Assembly. This year, the Association’s annual meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. and will be quite different than in the past.

The Legal Team here at MASB regularly answers questions concerning the issue of district complaints that are informally brought to their attention by parents, teachers or other community members.

November is right around the corner and that means we're officially eight days away from this year's MASB Annual Leadership Conference starting on Nov. 5! It may feel different than other years, but you can be certain we're ready to offer you an amazing conference experience, just in a new environment.
