The 25 recipients of the 2018 MASB/SET SEG Foundation Education Excellence Awards are some of the greatest examples of unique and innovative public school programs in the state of Michigan. Over the next few months, MASB will share the details of each program, presented in alphabetical order by district. This week we highlight the Chemic Challenge at Midland High School in Midland Public Schools.

The Legislature has been busy over the last year and has passed some new laws that will affect schools. Of course, the most publicized piece has dealt with the Marshall Plan and career and technical education, which Gov. Rick Snyder signed into law last month. But other changes will be coming into effect as well. The following is a brief description of what’s new for the 2018-2019 school year.

The MASB Board of Directors has elected officers to lead the Association’s governing body for the 2018-2019 year.

A new budget year is upon us and that means it’s time to make plans for the next 12 months, including what learning opportunities you will want to take advantage of. The MASB Event Calendar is filling up with both online and face-to-face prospects to aid you in being the most effective board member you can be, starting with the 2018 Summer Institute this August in Novi.

We’re less than a week from the filing deadline, and if you haven’t been able to Get On Board, you’d better hurry because the clock is ticking. All filings are due to your local clerk by Tuesday, July 24 at 4 p.m. You still have time, but let’s look at what you have to do before time runs out.
